As of March/April 2019 Ribbit is now the primary system for retrieving version information for most products. More information about the new system can be found on the Ribbit page. In early 2018, Blizzard started working on a new system that has superseded this.
Upon initial release, TACT used regular HTTP to retrieve information for its products.
